State-of-the-art facilities driven by advanced production methods honed over decades of experience.
Best product. Best delivery. Best price.
With state-of-the-art production facilities driven by the combined disciplines of Lean and Six Sigma, these goals – the hallmark of a world-class manufacturer – are at the center of everything we do.
Speedrack facilities are dedicated exclusively to the production of storage systems. The latest equipment is backed by production methods developed and refined for over 65 years and millions of pounds of storage rack. Precision tube mills, robotic welding, and dual powder coat paint lines ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
Facilities
Speedrack’s primary new product manufacturing facility is located in Quincy, MI. The state of the art facility hosts 350,000 square feet of production area, including two column mills, one beam mill, fully automatic robotic beam welding, extensive finished goods staging, two powder coat paint lines and 48 hours ship inventory.
The Quincy facility opened in 2003 with only 25 employees and has rapidly expanded to more than 250, including over 60 welders, becoming one of the top wage providers in the area.
In 2017, Speedrack opened a second satellite manufacturing plant in Litchfield, MI. The facility primarily manufactures LTL and stock, and features a state of the art dual upright/beam paint line, Finished goods and stock storage and a dedicated LTL staging/shipping building. The plant has reduced lead times on stock, LTL and small orders.
In 2020, ground broke on a $20 million expansion to the Quincy facility. The expansion will add an additional 130,000 square feet and new paint lines, robotics, welding jigs, locker rooms, and shipping docks. Up to 80 additional employees will be added to the headcount.
Quality
Speedrack employs Six Sigma, Lean, and Ford Production Systems (FPS) practices throughout the production process.
It also employs a comprehensive quality management program modeled after the ISO-9001 standards. The program is routinely updated to meet the highest standards.
Planned downtime is regularly scheduled for improved equipment reliability, safe operation, and predictable output.
Welding
Speedrack employs over 60 welders and has earned the Canadian CWB Certification and the platinum level of certification with Certified Welding Technologies, Inc. Weld
Welding practices focus on continuous improvement. Management frequently meets with both weld departments to improve safety, quality, and productivity. Large capital equipment investments have been made for the program over the last two years, including an additional beam mill and beam robotics.
Speedrack utilizes a structured program to hire, train and retain welders. Its formal apprenticeship program employs advanced teaching methods like Lincoln Software’s Smart VRTEX Mobile 360 virtual weld training module and engages with local high schools and career centers in the community for recruitment.
